Trying to wrap my head around this subject, and the problem I keep facing is the complexity of the eve economic market.
Which seems to me must be the main concern with the introduction of what is practically a new monetary value in eve. This new monetary value deeply links RL money with ingame ISK, as objects can be directly purchased thru plex.
Objects that are spawned by ccp.
There should be no doubt that if and when CCPs investors sees less profits&growth, pressure will be put to increase income. With a limited growth factor in subscribtions, introducing MT seems like a good idea, business-wise. The problem is tho that in order for it to work as a source of increased income for CCP, it will require goods that will have a high demand.
Such high demand can only be created if said object is better than anything else, AND is something people will need to win. Clothes (unless they give bonus's like implants) are not in that group, and will, especially in a spaceship game, be a limited/small market.
The inevitable future of AUR and the noble shop, is P2W. Maybe not today or next year, but whenever investors demand more profits. We cant get away from that now.
The best thing I can think of right now to make it a tad better is:
Make EVERYTHING ever sold in the noble shop, player created. Sure it can be fancy +7 implants, ships with 10 lowslots etc, but as long as some makes it, and gets their share of the "profits" (ie ISK), you (CCP) still sell the plex that breaks down to AUR (it needs tho to go both ways, AUR=>PLEX and AUR<=PLEX), everything should be in order. Spawning expensive things without effort or player interaction isnt good. Clothe BPO, monocle BPO, etc etc. you can create a whole new immersion with the nobleshop for your customers, dont steal that away from us.
As many has said before, pay to win is already in eve, thru plex. Just make sure it doesnt ruin gameplay for anyone not interrested in paying to win, while still keeping the promise to new players that they can be "rich" in game if they stick with the game. Dont forget we ALL already PAY to "win". We pay thru our subscriptions.
If its one thing CCP shoulda learned thru these years is that the player driven ingame economy is a major factor to what makes this game great. Avoiding this market in any object (spawing clothes/ships/standings/etc), you introduce severly threaten this market.
